Time has run out

“There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.” (Eccl 3:1)

There are some verses that sound poetic until life forces you to live them. Ecclesiastes reminds us there’s a time for everything, a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot, a time to weep and a time to laugh. It’s beautiful on paper. But when the carpet gets pulled out from under you, it doesn’t feel beautiful.

We all know those moments:
The friend you thought would always be there slowly drifts away. The relationship you poured into suddenly comes to an end. The person you loved deeply is no longer here.

Change is rarely polite. It doesn’t knock and wait for permission. It barges in, leaving us gasping, wondering why life couldn’t just stay the way it was. And in those moments, it doesn’t help when someone tells you, “This is God’s plan.” Because right then, God’s plan feels like pain. You were comfortable. You were settled. You had found your rhythm. And then, just like that, it’s over?

Ecclesiastes doesn’t sugarcoat life. It tells us bluntly that there is a time for loss, a time for mourning, a time for tearing down. The Holy Spirit has already whispered this ancient truth: change is woven into the fabric of life.

And yet, we resist it. Because endings feel like failure. Because loss feels like punishment. Because we don’t want a new season when the old one still felt safe, right? (I know).

First, we admit it. Faith doesn’t deny pain, it holds it in God’s presence. We can say, “Lord, this hurts more than I can bear.”
We can cry, “I wasn’t ready.”
We can even confess, “I don’t like Your timing.”And you know what? God can handle it.

Psalm 34:18 says:

“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”

That means He’s not standing far off waiting for you to “get over it.” He’s near, right in the middle of your mess, holding you steady when you feel like life is slipping through your fingers.

The truth is, though it feels cruel, change is often God’s mercy. We may not see it today. We may not want it right now. But there is a bigger picture. The One who was present at the beginning of time is still orchestrating seasons with wisdom beyond our sight.

Romans 8:28 reminds us:
“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”

“All things” includes the heartbreak, the endings, the painful transitions.

Beloved, maybe today you’re in the middle of a season you didn’t choose. Maybe you’re grieving, resisting, wishing you could just go back.

You don’t have to pretend it doesn’t hurt. But you can rest in this: there is a time for everything, even this. And if there’s a time for endings, there will also be a time for beginnings. If there’s a time to weep, there will also be a time to laugh again.

So hold on. Breathe. Let the Holy Spirit remind you… this too is part of the story, and the Author has not left the page.
