Fueling Your Body, Freeing Your Soul

We’ve all heard it before: you are what you eat. But when it comes to fitness, that phrase carries a deeper weight. The truth is, your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Cor 6:19), and how you fuel it determines how far it can take you.

Five Meals a Day:

Think of your metabolism as a fire. If you toss on one big log in the morning and wait all day, the fire dies down. But if you feed it consistently, breakfast, mid-morning fuel, lunch, afternoon snack, and dinner, it burns steadily and strong.
• Breakfast: Choose whole foods that fuel your brain and muscles (think oats, eggs, or fruit).
• Snacks: Nuts, yogurt, or a banana with peanut butter to keep blood sugar steady.
• Lunch & Dinner: Lean proteins, whole grains, and vegetables to restore energy and repair muscle.

This isn’t about perfection or obsession. It’s about stewardship. God gave you a body to move, to serve, to worship, and He cares about how you care for it.

Whether it’s running, boxing, CrossFit, cycling, or swimming, every form of exercise challenges you differently. Strength training builds resilience. Cardio strengthens endurance. Mobility keeps you free from injury. Sports is also a way of worship!

At first, it may feel like work. But repeat the discipline long enough and it becomes routine. Get up—do it—do it well. And in that rhythm, your body transforms. Your mind sharpens. Your spirit steadies. Consistency is where the results are born.

For me, running is never punishment, it’s my freedom. When I lace up, it’s not just physical training, it’s holy ground. I run against myself. My only competitor is yesterday’s version of me.

There’s something almost sacred about 8×6 hill repeats with 20-second rests. My lungs burn, my legs scream, but my heart overflows. And when I stand there, hands on knees, waiting for breath to return, all I can say is:

“Thank You, Lord. Thank You for these legs. Thank You for this breath. Thank You for life.”

Running has shaped not just my body, but my mind. And most importantly, it’s become my alone time with Jesus. My rhythm of worship. My pace of prayer. My finish line is His presence.

God wants us whole, spirit, soul, and body. Your routine might look different from mine, but the principle stands, fuel your body well, move with discipline, and let your training become a song of gratitude.

Because every step, every breath, every heartbeat is a reminder, you’re alive. And being alive is a gift worth stewarding well!
Today, run your race with joy, fuel your fire with wisdom, and never forget to whisper “thank You” along the way.
