Okay, let’s be honest.
It’s Wednesday.
Also known as “The Day the Coffee Isn’t Strong Enough and the To-Do List is Out of Hand.”
If you’ve ever found yourself fantasizing about a nap that lasts seven years, hiding in your car for five extra minutes just for silence, or googling “Is adult adoption legal?” so someone else can take over your life for the day …
WELCOME.
You’re in good company.
This, dear friend, is what I like to call Midweek Syndrome.
It’s that moment where the walls feel like they’re caving in, your inbox is a war zone, your kids are feral (bless their little souls), and your body is functioning on a diet of prayer, leftovers, and caffeine.
And somewhere in the back of your mind, you’re wondering…
“Where is that spiritual ‘TIME OUT’ button? And why didn’t Jesus install one?”
But wait.
He did. The Invitation We Forget Exists
Jesus didn’t just die for our salvation.
He also made rest a sacred rhythm — not a luxury, but a necessity.
Here’s what He says in Matthew 11:28-30 (NLT):
“Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.
Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.”
Take that in slowly.
Not just rest for your body.
Not just a nap (though we love those too).
Rest for your soul.
This is the kind of rest that can’t be found in a spa or in a new planner or even in that third cup of strong coffee (though bless its ministry).
It’s soul-deep.
It’s peace that surpasses all understanding.
It’s Jesus saying:
“You don’t have to hustle for My love. You just have to come.” We Were Created for the Bench, Too
You see, even in Genesis, God, the all-powerful, never-tired Creator , rested.
Why? Not because He needed to, but because He was setting a divine pattern.
A holy rhythm.
A blueprint for us frantic humans who try to live as if we’re infinite.
Sabbath wasn’t made to slow us down; it was made to save us from burnout.
When we live without rest, we slowly become a shell of who we were created to be.
But when we rest in Christ, we reconnect with who we actually are:
Loved.
Known.
Held.
Not for what we do, but for Whose we are.
So, What Now?
You don’t need a full weekend away.
You don’t even need to run away (tempting as that may be).
What you need is a moment.
A sacred pause.
A spiritual time-out where you can just say:
“Jesus, I’m tired. I don’t have much to give. But I want to sit with You.”
And friend, that’s enough.
A Few Scriptures to Breathe In Today
Psalm 23:2-3
“He makes me lie down in green pastures,
He leads me beside quiet waters,
He refreshes my soul.”
Isaiah 40:29-31
“He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak…
But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint.”
Exodus 33:14
“My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.”
You’re not a machine.
You are a deeply loved daughter of the Most High.
You were not created to only do — you were created to be.
So today, let the kitchen be messy.
Let the notifications sit unread.
Let the world spin without your micromanagement.
And sit. Just sit.
Even if it’s in the bathroom with the door locked (no judgment).
Let the King of Glory breathe on you.
Let Him carry the weight you weren’t meant to hold.
Let Him restore you — not with to-do lists, but with His presence.
The world can wait.
Jesus is calling.
Love, Vicky
