Live Worthy

“As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received.”

Ephesians 4:1 (NIV)

At first glance, it sounds simple.

“Live a life worthy.”

Then you stop and think… worthy of what?

Paul isn’t talking about your career. He isn’t talking about becoming a missionary, pastor, business owner, or public speaker. He isn’t asking you to earn God’s approval through impressive achievements.

He’s talking about everything he has just spent three chapters explaining.

You have been chosen before the foundation of the world.

You have been adopted into God’s family.

You have been redeemed by the blood of Jesus.

You have been forgiven.

You have been sealed with the Holy Spirit.

You have been given an eternal inheritance.

You have been made alive with Christ.

You have been brought near.

You belong in the Father’s house.

Now… live like someone who belongs there.

Paul uses a beautiful Greek word, axios, translated “worthy.” It literally paints the picture of a set of balancing scales.

On one side sits the immeasurable weight of God’s grace.

Chosen.

Adopted.

Forgiven.

Redeemed.

Loved.

Sealed.

Blessed with every spiritual blessing in Christ.

On the other side sits your life.

Not to earn those blessings.

But to let your daily walk reflect what God has already done.

That sounds easy…

Until Monday morning.

Until someone offends you.

Until you’re tired.

Until temptation whispers.

Until pride creeps in.

Until forgiveness feels impossible.

Until patience runs out.

That’s when you realise balancing the scales isn’t achieved in one giant heroic moment. It’s built in thousands of ordinary decisions.

The beautiful surprise is this: when Paul begins explaining what a “worthy life” looks like, he doesn’t start with preaching to crowds, moving mountains, or performing miracles.

He says: “Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.” …

Let’s start by that today?

Love
