War stories

I have this theory.

It started somewhere between war movies and those intense American military films where everything is precision, discipline, and repetition. Platoons do not just show up ready. Navy SEALs do not become the best overnight. They train again and again until instinct takes over.

And then in the middle of chaos, when everything is loud and fast and uncertain, someone shouts, “Just do what you have been trained to do.”

Don’t think. Don’t panic. Don’t reinvent the moment.

Just fall back on what has already been built into you.

And it hit me, this is exactly what faith is supposed to look like.

Maybe you are in a situation right now, where you are tired. Empty. Done trying to figure it all out. You do not have the energy for deep prayers or new revelations. You do not have the strength to fight the way you used to.

And in that moment, something else has to carry you. Muscle memory.

Not physically , but spiritual.

For years, we have been trained by the Word of God. We have read it, heard it, wrestled with it, been undone and rebuilt by it. We have had moments where Christ revealed Himself so personally and so undeniably that it marked us intimately.

Those moments were not random. They were training. Deposits.

Foundations being laid quietly and faithfully over time.

So now, when you feel like you have nothing left, your spirit knows what to do. It remembers. It reaches. It responds, even when your emotions do not.

You might not feel strong, but you know how to stand.
You might not feel full, but you know what is true. You might not feel close to God, but something in you still leans toward Him.

That is not coincidence. That is training.

That is what it looks like to fall back on what has already been built inside of you.

But here is the tension we cannot ignore. What happens if you have not trained?

If there is no Word stored up.
No truth rooted deep.
No history with God to draw from. What do you fall back on when life hits hard?

Because it will hit.

That is why now matters. Not later. Not when things get difficult. Not when you suddenly feel desperate enough.

Now.

Scripture says, “Open your mouth wide, and I will fill it.” (Psalm 81 verse 10.)

There is an invitation here. An urgency, even.

Open wide.

Make room. Take it in. Let the Word shape you, train you, correct you, strengthen you.

Not just for today, but for what is coming. Because we are not unprepared. We are not left without tools. We are not abandoned to figure this out alone.

We are being trained.

Our hearts are learning the sound of heaven. Our spirits are being conditioned to recognize truth. Our lives are being shaped into something steady, something anchored, something ready.

So when the moment comes, when you feel weak, when life presses in, when everything in you wants to give up, you will not have to scramble.

You will know.

Stand firm.
Choose truth.
Walk in obedience.
Love anyway.

It is who you have become.

So start now, beloved.
Train your spirit.
Fill your life with truth.
Build the foundation while you can still breathe deeply.

Because one day, when it counts most, you will simply do what you have been trained to do.

Love

Our family of seven kids (including our surprise twin boys!) keeps life wonderfully full and a little wild. I’m also a co-owner of Elevate, a faith-driven business that believes in helping people rise to their full potential.

This blog is a space where I share faith-filled encouragement, real-life stories, and weekly devotionals to uplift believers in the faith. It’s a little bit of motherhood, a little bit of ministry—and a whole lot of grace.

Let’s grow in faith, together.
