The Crown Doesn’t Fit Yet

Looks like a King David feast for my writing! Like there is so much I am seeing and reading and would love to share! Please allow me this difficult one. You know the absolute pain in a situation when you know you are anointed, but not yet appointed…? Horrible feeling right? The one where you want to take matters into your own hands because you already know what to do, but that voice inside says, wait… just wait.

You’ve been chosen. Called. Marked by heaven. Yet everything around you feels delayed, detoured, and sometimes downright humiliating.

David knew that feeling.
He was anointed by Samuel in front of his brothers, oil dripping down his head, the promise of a throne spoken over his life. But what followed wasn’t a coronation… it was chaos.

He ended up hiding in caves, running through deserts, and pretending to be insane just to survive (1 Sam 21). Imagine that! The Bible actually says “So he pretended to be insane, scratching on doors and drooling down his beard.”
‭‭
Humiliated yet?

David could have ended it all.
Twice he had the chance to kill Saul, the man who hunted him, slandered him, and made his life miserable. But David didn’t.

Because David understood something most of us struggle with: You don’t rush what God is refining.

Killing Saul would’ve ended his pain, but aborted his process. And God was more interested in forming the king within David than placing a crown upon him.

There’s a holy tension between promise and possession, that in-between season where your anointing feels out of place.
You can sense the oil on you but still feel stuck in the field, overlooked or misunderstood.

David’s story reminds us:
Anointing without process breeds pride. Process without anointing breeds despair.
But anointing through process births humility, and that’s where kings are made. (Make that a sticker if you need to)

When David acted insane before King Achish it wasn’t weakness, it was wisdom.
It was humility in motion. It was survival until purpose could unfold. He wasn’t crazy, he was covered.

Sometimes, God will hide His chosen ones in unlikely places.
In caves, in waiting rooms, in seasons that make no sense.
Not to punish them, but to preserve them.

Because if the crown comes too soon, it will crush what hasn’t been strengthened yet.

David was never disqualified by his delay. He was being developed in it. He learned how to lead sheep before he led soldiers. He learned to worship in obscurity before he ever ruled in authority. He learned restraint, reverence, and reliance.

God was teaching him that the true battle isn’t fought with spears and swords, it’s fought in the secret places of surrender.

Maybe you’re in that place right now, the “in-between.”
You know what God said, but nothing around you looks like it.
You feel anointed but stuck.
Hidden but ready. Tired but still burning.

Can I tell you something, beloved? You are not forgotten, you are being fitted.

And when the crown finally comes, it won’t just fit your head… it will fit your heart.

Because the waiting, the wilderness, and even the moments where you had to “act insane” just to survive, were all part of the refining.
The crown will sit steady on the one who learned to bow first.

About Me

HELLO THERE!

Hi, I’m Vicky Ludick. Wife to Matt, mama to seven, pastor, author, businesswoman, and a woman deeply in love with Jesus.

My husband and I lead Grace Family Church, and alongside ministry I run Elevate Namibia. I hold a Bachelor of Theology, but much of what you’ll read here was learned far beyond a classroom, through faith, failure, restoration, motherhood, marriage, surrender, and the relentless grace of God. I have been fortunate enough to study some Law too, so you can almost imagine me wanting to fight, and be peaceful at the same time! But this blog is not for that…

This blog is where I write honestly about Jesus and real life. I write about exercise and being a blended Family. I write about Theological topics and I write about the beautiful parts, the broken parts, and everything God teaches us in between.

If you’ve ever wondered whether God can still use an imperfect story, you’re in the right place.

Welcome to my blog! ❤️
